Natural History

People aren’t the only species that recycle—some beetles perform all sorts of favors for nature by recycling or reusing things like poop and dead animals. Discover the antics of these hard-working little insects and find out how being gross can lead to something great. For children ages 5-10 with adult chaperones.

Katherine Y - Volunteer Naturalist

I joined the Volunteer Ranger Corp in 2022. My husband is also a VR, and it's a pleasure patrolling together. Previously, I had fun working as a BCPOS Volunteer Naturalist from 1998–2023, and initially also wrote a few articles for IMAGES magazine. In 1999, I became an author of the Nature Detectives insert in IMAGES, and continued writing Nature Detectives until summer 2022. I enjoy meeting people on the trail, and sometimes even get to share some of the knowledge I gained as a VN and author.
