Volunteer Work Projects - All Ages Welcome

Native Seed is what we need To feed the elk, and the bees! But I need your help to get this done, So sign up today to have some FUN! A healthy landscape is a dynamic one. A dynamic landscape is not without disturbances. Whether it be a wildfire, a new trail, or forest health operations, Boulder County Parks and Open Space (BCPOS) uses locally collected native plant material to help the lands we love recover from disturbances large and small. Why do anything at all, you ask? In some instances, it's not necessary to do much because landscapes have evolved to not only survive, but to thrive with some level of disturbance. However in other cases, it can be really beneficial to help the ecosystem along through restoration - the process of assisting in the recovery of a damaged, degraded or destroyed landscape area. Enter: Native Seed! Using local, native plant material increases the chances for successful long term restoration of a disturbed area. BCPOS collects a lot of native to use in restoration and after a collection is made, this seed often needs to separated out its pods or off its stalks to be efficiently used on the landscape. Enter: YOU! Join Boulder County Plant Ecologist, Carrie Cimo, process native seed! You'll learn more about restoration and meet some wonderful folks who share a passion for the outdoors! Sign up today! *Projects are held in a large conference room and limited to 20 volunteers per event due to COVID. Face masks will be required for the duration of the project.
