Volunteer Work Projects - All Ages Welcome

Have you ever used iNaturalist? Have you ever wondered what happens to a landscape after a fire? If you can answer "yes" to either of these questions, then this event is for you! In partnership with the Lefthand Watershed Center and The Cal-Wood Education Center, Boulder County will be exploring in the footprint of the Cal-Wood fire, the largest wildfire in Boulder County history. As a group, we will walk the landscape and observe the plants that are already starting to return in the wake of the burn. Using a smartphone app called iNaturalist, we will take photos of the plants we see, and identify any we can. Our photos will then be contributed to a growing database that will, with your help, allow us to better understand how our lands change and rebound after a fire. What you should know about this event: 1. We will be hiking on uneven terrain. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required. 2. Our project area has been recently burned, and some safety gear may be required, but all will be provided. 3. The use of your smartphone is highly encouraged, as we will be using an app called iNaturalist to take pictures and record the vegetation we find. It is free to download, and we will provide all instructions on how to install and use the app. 4. All COVID safety protocols will be observed for the duration of the project. Please note that every volunteer under the age of 18 needs a waiver signed by a parent or guardian, and needs to be accompanied to the volunteer event by an adult. We are so excited to explore this changing landscape with you. We hope you'll join us!
